Night Of A Thousands Means A Night Of Hot Racing

. Posted in Racing News

This week-end Bubba Raceway Park moves to Saturday nights, but everything else stays the same, including the intense battles throughout the racing fields. The Gladiators in their first-ever thousand-to-win race at Bubba Raceway Park join the Mini Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Fan Participation race (which is only $500 to win) and newly added Hobby Stock race. And, as always, drivers will be hoping to score points so they can bask in championship glory in late November.

The Hobby Stock race has been added by request of fans and drivers and Bubba the Love Sponge is giving them a chance. If 24 cars show up to race in the Hobby Stock division then Bubba will give them a points season. How about that? Drivers, bring your Hobbies and give the fans the amazing show you always do. Of course, last time the Hobby Stocks raced at Bubba Raceway Park everyone was watching two young guns, Devin Walker and Matt Shea, battle for the win, and Shea took the win while Walker climbed out of his car on the frontstretch after a real good attempt at the checkers. This time Walker will do everything it takes to put his 55JR in victory circle, however.

The Gladiators last run on the 3/8 mile was won by Casey Feaster. Feaster only led the last lap after an intense battle with Brandon Haseleu. Haseleu looks to improve one position and celebrate in victory lane with his dad, just as he did when he was awarded the David Reutimann Award for 2010. There's always the possibility that Kyle Morse could break his string of bad luck and put the 82 car in victory circle, however, just as his grandpa did many years ago.

The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks always put a great show on when there's a $1000 to win, and with the likes of Jason Gamble, Ray Wheeler, and NASCAR driver Chris Fontaine around there's always a little extra incentive. As the closing feature last week the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks put a great show on and nothing less is expected. The highest points finisher that has remained from 2010, Chris Shea, has been very close to an Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks victory, but hasn't put the #76 under the checkered flag first yet. Vaughn Woodall took a feature win last season, but hasn't quite been in prime position to snatch a win yet in 2011. Brian Shea was able to put the BP Electric #19 in the early lead last week, but faded a bit to 5th. Brian Shea will be looking to better that and get on the podium and into an early championship lead.

The Mini Stocks were the first ever class to race under the Bubba Raceway Park banner, and Ray Caldwell took the honor of first winner at Bubba Raceway Park. However, to win a championship on the 3/8 mile you can never rest and Caldwell will have to once again better the rest of the field if he wants to hold the points lead. Ray Ethridge won at Bubba Raceway Park last season and would love to repeat that feat this Saturday night. Ryan Babcock landed on the podium for the first time in his career last week, while Arnold Perkins will want to put the 55 a few spots higher and take his turn with a trophy. The 2010 track champion in Mini Stocks, Nick Kerr, will strive to take home the $1000 for himself after a championship caliber top 5 last week.

Fan participation races are always fun, especially when $500 is on the line. Bring your suit and helmet and you may be pulling the belts tight and watching the action from your windshield. How about that? Bubba the Love Sponge knows how to put a show on!

Gates open at 5 with racing at 8 this Saturday night, May 21. Night of a Thousands at Bubba Raceway Park is bound to be a hot one! For more information call the Bubba Raceway Park hotline or check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com.

DARLAND STRETCHES NATIONAL WIN STREAK TO 23 YEARS WITH SUNDAY OCALA WIN

by BRP Media
Ocala, Florida…….Dave Darland added to the most impressive streak in USAC history on Sunday night at Bubba Raceway Park, as he added another AMSOIL National Sprint Car win to his list and made it 23 consecutive seasons with at least one win in a USAC National series. The Lincoln, Indiana veteran’s all-time record 54th National Sprint Car win came in flag-to-flag fashion aboard the Phillips Motorsports – Trench Shoring #71P DRC/Foxco. “My crew had to work their asses off just to get the car ready for the feature after some issues in the heat race and then gave me a great car even without having much chance to keep up with the track. We have just had some bad luck out of the gate, but tonight was a great way to rebound. It’s good to be down here while it’s snowing at home, and I can drink a beer to celebrate while it’s warm outside. And it’s good to get my first win in the state of Florida!” Darland said. Darland led at the start over polesitter Chris Windom, while Robert Ballou was the early man on the move, jumping into the top-five in just a few laps after starting tenth. A red flag on lap six brought things to a screeching halt as Brady Short flipped hard into turn three and collected Landon Simon. Neither driver was hurt. After a tangle on the ensuing restart, Ballou found himself bringing out the next caution as he slid to a stop in turn-three, giving up the fifth spot but restarting at the tail. Under that caution, defending champion and current point leader Brady Bacon… read more
