Still Feels Like The First Time At Bubba Raceway Park

. Posted in Racing News

It was a Night of a Thousands for the Mini Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Gladiators, and Hobby Stocks if they could bring 24 cars to the feature. There was also a $500 to win Fan Participation race in which 6 brave fans took their street cars, or trucks, on to the clay of Bubba Raceway Park.

The night started off with 6 brave fans taking their street vehicles on to the clay and Dennis Sanderson put his Chevrolet in victory lane and he put the $500 in his pocket for the 2-lap eliminator challenge.

Bubba the Love Sponge listened to the fans and drivers and gave the Hobby Stock class a chance to impress and maybe earn themselves a points fund. They didn't disappoint and 28 cars entered for a chance at $1000. The racing started off with 3 starts all resulting in multi-car spins before the Hobby Stocks were forced to start single-file. This time they completed 1 lap before Donald Woosley, Mike Eubanks, Pat Dent, William Edwards, Ray Wheeler, and Ron Whitley crashed in turn 4, but all did eventually return to the clay battlefield. After another restart and 2 laps Devin Walker's 55JR went up the turn 1 embankment and stayed there with a tire problem. As the race wore on, Chad Scranton was watching for his shot at a win while he trailed Kevin Durden, Bubba Christian, and Mike Tovet. On lap 9 Ray Wheeler and Mark Maresca made contact as William Edwards went high and stopped in turn 3. As Kevin Durden was riding through turn 3, just as Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. last week-end in the Late Models, the yellow flag came out for the spun car of Devin Walker. It would be a 1-lap restart for time had expired and cost them the last 10 laps of the race. As the drivers went into turn 1 Chad Scranton nosed the 7 right below the 56 of Kevin Durden and took the lead down the back straight for a $1000 pay day. Durden did take 2nd with Bubba Christian 3rd, Nevin Gainey 4th, and Mike Tovet in 5th place.

Next up was the Mini Stocks and 19 of the 22 cars answered the bell for this night. After 1 lap was completed, front row starter Jimbo Bird slowed and brought out the yellow flag. Ray Folwell and Keith Briggs had an intense battle for the lead until lap 14 when Buddy Pope spun his 81 in turn 2. On the restart Robert Morfin, Jr. and Buddy Pope took their top 5 cars off the track asking, 'what could've been?' With 3 laps to go Nick Kerr slowed setting up an intense restart for a $1000 prize. Folwell was untouchable and took the checkers while Ray Rogers took 2nd, Charlie Staats in 3rd, Brittany Yates 4th, and Rob Underwood a consistent 5th.That makes 2-in-a-row for Folwell at Bubba Raceway Park.

The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks started out with 33 drivers wanting $1000 and some bragging rights too. On lap 4 Jason Blackmer spun and his tires gripped just right to barrel roll the car in the middle of the back straight. After the clean-up it took 6 laps until our next caution in which Chris Shea spun while Mike Cobble flipped at the entrance of turn 3. Both drivers were okay. Going into turn 1 on lap 14 Gordon Cade got underneath of Jonathan Appleby and unfortunate contact was made dropping both drivers to the back and out of contention. Chad Scranton had 6 laps to get around Jason Gamble and they put on a great battle, but Gamble had the high-line working again and put the 27 of Eddie Tillander and Certified Automotive Repair Team in victory lane back-to-back. Scranton went home 2nd after looking for a double $1000 night, Matt Schell was 3rd, Willard Driggers came home in 4th, and Mike Tovet took his 2nd finish of 5th on the night.

The Gladiators first-ever paying race, at least since the conversion to dirt, started off with Rebecca Paugh's 23 going head-on with the driver's side door of another driver in the 3rd heat. She was awake and alert, but extra care was taken for her neck. In the feature there were 26 cars invited out of an entered 37. On lap 7 of the feature the 20 of Casey Feaster went 3-wide for 2nd and the tire went down shortly after, ending his chance for a $1000 payout. On lap 13 Darrell Taylor and George Christianson made contact as Steven Cox took 'the Penny' to the lead. Steven Cox held on for the $1000 win with Collin Kruse 2nd, Kever Raulerson 3rd, Bubba Puyear 4th, and Harold Lewis in 5th. After tech, however, Raulerson was disqualified putting Puyear 3rd, Lewis 4th for the 1-4 for the S & S Roofing Team, and Reid Christiensen in 5th.

This up-coming Saturday night the UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds headline the night with the Late Models, Mini Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, and Gladiators. Points racing continues with every point counting! For more information check www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway Hotline.
