Firsts And Streaks At Bubba Raceway Park

. Posted in Racing News

With Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators taking to the clay on the night, the fans were in for a treat. After a rain storm in the early afternoon, the fans and drivers showed up in full force like the best in Florida do.

First for the night was the Hobby Stocks. The race went 5 laps before Billy Carlbert, Jr. took the 11 for a spin. The restart gave everyone the chances they needed, but Joe Boyd, Patrick Dent, and Brian Morgan made contact in turn 4 and that would stop the action for a few laps. Kevin Durden, meanwhile, was dominating the event, but after John Clack spun on the frontstretch, Durden pulled off track for a deflating tire. A 2 lap run gave Durden a few spots, but Devin Walker would go no further when his engine bowed out. A later culprit was a cricket in the engine. Chad Scranton took over the lead from Durden, and didn't really want to give it back. Scranton would have to maneuver a restart for the Scott Stewart spin and Jeff Miller and Kevin Durden's contact, and he did it again after Buck Woodhouse slowed in turn 1 and 2. Scranton took his 2nd-in-a-row, while Tim Powers was 2nd, Donnie Reed in 3rd, Howard Osteen in 4th, and Bud Chancey went home with the final top 5 position.

Mini Stock action was great all around, but the lead was great as the race ended. A lap 6 yellow for Cody Kinsey's spin in turn 2 slowed the field. On the restart, everyone made their moves and coming out on top was "TacoSon" Roberto Morfin, Jr. The yellow came out again on lap 7 as Daniel Bailey spun and Carl Thomas took evasive action. The final 13 laps were run with a green flag, but it was no easy pickings for "TacoSon" as Chris Zimmermann displaced Keith Briggs, and almost took the win away. "TacoSon" took career win #1 at Bubba Raceway Park while Chris Zimmermann took another 2nd place finish, Keith Briggs went home in 3rd, Ray Folwell in 4th, and Ray Ethridge took 5th at the very end.

Late Model action that only Bubba Raceway Park can bring. Mark Whitener took the early lead, but on lap 11 when Kyle Van Sickle had to take evasive action to keep  the field from piling up. After a 4 lap green flag run, Austin Kirkpatrick spun and brought out the yellow. The scariest moment for Whitener was on lap 18 when he spun to avoid contact with V.P. Pipken. Whitener took his position back, but no resting would come as Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. was behind him. Whitener put the high side to use, but Whitener would stop leading when Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. got door-to-door with him down the frontstretch and cleared by turn 1. Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. made it 2-in-a-row, Tyler Ivey also passed Whitener for 2nd, Whitener finished 3rd, Shan Smith would leave with 4th, and Dillon Wood was 5th.

The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks had a great night, but Jason Gamble didn't start how he wanted to. Gamble spun his 73 in turn 4, but continued after the yellow was thrown. On lap 7, coming out of turn 4, Gordon Cade had something in the back-end break, and the 121 went around and hit the tire. Brian Mullins, Jason Blackner, and Dalton Strehle had a great battle up front, however. On lap 12, both of Eddie Tillander's cars, the 27 of Danny "Poo" Fletcher which stalled at pit-in, and the 73 of Jason Gamble which hit the wall, brought out the yellow. Gamble, the current points leader, would not continue. After 3 more laps, David Miller, Jr. had a failure somewhere in the right front and moved the sod as he hit the wall. Miller was alert after the accident. It was 2 laps later that Vaughn Woodall would lose his right rear and the axel too. The track was cleaned of debris, and Jason Blackner took career win #1, while Brian Mullins, Dalton Strehle, Michael Valdez, and Tim Mathieu were left to think of what victory lane feels like, at least for another race.

Steve Cox, Gladiator driver, was looking for a 4th consecutive win, but everyone else wanted to stop him. Lap 1 ended the night of Brandon Haseleu, as he spun after contact with Richard Todd. Reid Christensen held the lead until contact with Richard Todd down the frontstretch resulted in car #30 hitting the tire and hitting the wall, but the worst was a small fire under the car that got worse as the car stopped. No one was injured or burned in the accident. Going back to the last scored lap showed that only Steve Cox and Richard Todd were on the lead lap. Todd gave it a shot, but Cox was too powerful. Steve Cox made it 4-in-a-row, while Richard Todd took a career best 2nd, James Butcher was 3rd, the first car 1 lap down, Kody Fisher and Matt Kramer battled for 4th, and Fisher bested Kramer in the final laps.

The schedule as has been heard is that Late Models will run again, the UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds return, Gladiators run, and the Florida Mini Sprints Association also return. For more information you may check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline.

Bubba Raceway Park Results 5/15/2015

by Lisa Mamph
May 15, 2015 Ocala, FL - A cool breeze in the air made the racing action hot this past Friday at Bubba Raceway Park. For the driver’s in attendance they were treated to a well prepared racetrack special thanks to Bubba himself and Jimmy Flores. E-Modifieds were first to take to the track in their 10 lap feature event. This race would consist of Neven Gainey (0) and Brandon Elwood (28E) dueling it out for the first place position. Consistent side by side racing would make a hard fought victory for Gainey who would top Elwood at the checkered flag to take the win. Third spot would go to Dillon Ennis (10E) and rounding out the finish would be Tom Sheehan (5). Up next were the Florida T.Q. Late Models for a 20 lap feature event. Terry Wright (007) would jump to an early lead over Dalton Hopke (H2) and David Rader (6). As the racing action was heating up, the challengers for the lead started falling off with Hopke being the first to retire to the pit area followed a few laps later by Rader. This left Wright to sail to the checkered flag unopposed. Rounding out the top five of the night was Randy Glick (45), Fl, John Hopke (H1), Sean Babcock (02) and Chuck Cessna (85). The Florida Mini Sprints were next to take to the track for their 20 Lap feature event. Starting on the pole and jumping to an early lead was Danny Sams III (24x). Sams held off charges from Robbie Smith (77) and Robbie Hoffman (12) as Hoffman was looking to make it two in a row at BRP and Smith was just hoping to… read more
