It's Double Points night at Bubba Raceway Park! Late Models race for $4000, the UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds return, Gladiators in a $300 to win race, and the Florida Mini Sprints Association return as well. Also, Buddy's Home Furnishings sponsors the night and a 50 inch flat screen tv raffle with all proceeds going to a charity of Scott Thompson's family's choice.
The Florida Mini Sprints Association always puts on a great show and nothing less is expected this week-end. Last time out, David Pleaugh put his 711 in victory circle, but Justin Kolves and John Craddock were right there at the end. The Florida Mini Sprints Association is truly the best kept secret in Florida.
Late Model action is so close at Bubba Raceway Park that 15 drivers could leave the points leader. Of course, only 1 will, and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. would like to keep the lead, and his win streak, alive. Lloyd leads Dillon Wood by 6 points, but that means next-to-nothing on Double Points night. Of course, Wood is still searching for a feature win in 2011 and Double Points might make him that much hungrier. Tyler Ivey, a winner in 2011 already, is 3rd, just 12 behind Lloyd. Ivey can take that deficit down severely this week-end, and the same of 4th place Johnny Collins. "The Locomotive" could certainly put his #5 in winner's circle, and make those 26 points up quickly if he does. Bo Allen is 29 markers out of the lead, but as he's moved into the top 5, he'd like to continue to move up through the rankings.
The UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds have started with a story close to last season's- Jeff Mathews and Kyle Bronson. Bronson is the points leader at 118, but 2nd place is Jim Smith, and he's only 13 down. In 3rd, 1 behind Smith, is Garret Stewart. Stewart was very close to the break-through win, and Double Points night is just as good for a 1st win. Jeff Mathews, looking for a 4th consecutive title, is in 4th place, 1 behind Stewart, and 15 behind Bronson. Mathews is always a threat and can't be taken lightly. Henry Hall is 5th, 19 points out of 1st. Hall has used consistency to keep a top 5 spot.
The Gladiators take to the clay once more, this time with $300 on the line. Steve Cox has the points lead with 259 out of a possible 260 this season! Brandon Haseleu is 71 behind Cox, but may just be the man, or kid, to knock Cox off the top step. In 3rd is Reid Christensen, 86 down, who had his best run at Bubba Raceway Park ended by hitting the turn 1 tire while lapping another car. Christensen would love to take the win streak from Cox, but it won't come easily. At 104 points down is Matt Kramer. Kramer has consistently finished in the top 10 and gained points by it. Right behind Kramer is Richard Todd. Todd took a career best 2nd place finish last week-end, but is still 108 markers down.
Gates open at 4:30 with racing scheduled for 7. For more information you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline. Double Points night at Bubba Raceway Park promises to be an exciting one!
