Back To The Future

It's Labor Day week-end and the return from the August Break and the UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds will race in the $3000 to win One Last One For PJ Wiggins! Alongside the Modifieds are the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Gladiators, and Florida Mini Sprints Association. Of course, with the NASCAR stars in Atlanta on Sunday it gives David Reutimann a chance to return to Bubba Raceway Park.

The UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds have had 6 races and 6 different winners. Jeff Mathews, 1 of those 6, currently holds a 9 point lead over team-mate Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. Lloyd has been close, but, so far, hasn't celebrated in Victory Lane after a Modified race. Garret Stewart, Jim Passino, and Dave Barber have all had great runs to place in the top 5 and all 3 are within 40 points of Mathews. They are also winless and would love to beat the best in the business with $3000 on the line. Henry Hall has put himself in 6th with his consistency and when you run up front a win is around the corner. Kyle Bronson has run into some bad luck, but when he shakes it that 40B will be up at the front. He knows how to win as he's already done it in 2011, but his championship chase starts now with 60 to make up. Ronnie Chance is 8th in the 7S and continues to get stronger. Chance will look to strike and he could be dangerous. Steve Whitener has a win and would love to add another trophy to the mantle. Whitener, as well as Bronson, has proven he can compete for the title but will need some luck if he's to win the championship. Placing 10th is driver #10 Scott Mooers. Mooers took last year's Amsoil V-8 Thunderstock title but moved up to the Modified. Mooers has improved every week and the Pierce Modified #10 could surprise. Rich Pratt and Devin Dixon, both winners in 2011, will go for their 2nd of 2011. And, the man whom the race is named after also had a win and will truly get One Last One this week-end.

The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks have had 2 weeks to rebuild and a good one will be in store. Eddie Tillander put Jason Gamble in his cars for 2011 and the reward is 3 wins and a 17 point lead over winless driver Brian Shea. Both have been threats the last few weeks and it would be no surprise to see them in victory lane. Another 5 back is Chad Scranton. Scranton has 4 wins and wouldn't mind taking #5 and some valuable points with it. Vaughn Woodall and Jonathan Gillette are tied for 4th, just 1 behind Scranton. Woodall has 1 win from last season, but both are looking for their first celebrations in victory lane and either could do it at any given time. The last in the 6-man battle for the title is Gordon Cade. Cade, team-mate of Shea, seeks for win #1 on dirt and a win could carry him closer to the lead. Chris Watson, John Thorpe, Jonathan Appleby, and Tim Mathieu are all winless in 2011 but have come close a few times. It's been spins and crashes that have taken them out, but all 4 could take a well deserved win at any time. Jason Blackmer is outside the top 10 but he has a win while Chris Shea has 2. Don Stroshal, Jr. is 2-for-4 in 2011 and these 3 could win on any given night.

Gladiators driver Steve Cox has close to a 1 race lead on the field. Cox, with 7 wins, needs to double that amount to hold the Bubba Raceway Park season record. Reid Christensen finally broke out of his bad luck and took career win #1 last time out. Christensen got to celebrate, but near the front was driver #3 Brandon Haseleu. Haseleu has been close several times but hasn't closed the deal, but his turn is right around the corner. Richard Todd is top rookie and holds 4th by a few points. Todd has improved every week as has 5th place Jerry Taylor. Taylor, however, is locked in a tight battle with Stephen Frankland. Frankland missed the first 4 races of the season but has been up front since. "Frankie" has locked in on the top 5 and won't settle for less. Steve Johnson is 7th and with some wins could move up the charts, but he knows that he has a friend in championship competition. Johnson, however, won't back down. Kody Fisher and Matt Kramer battle each other hard every week and have swapped points positions every week, but Kody holds the advantage right now. In 10th is Robert Graham. He's come close on more than 1 occasion and will battle again, but wants to close the deal and gain some spots. Jonathan Green, Scott Sullivan, Sammy Dale, and Casey Feaster all have wins earlier this season and could strike again at any time.

David Pleaugh holds a 15 point lead over Chris Pacetti in the Florida Mini Sprints Association battle. Pacetti took the checkers last time at Bubba Raceway Park but was later disqualified. Pleaugh, as well as Gavin Thomas, Jesse Teed, and 3rd place Justin Kolves, are winners in 2011 at Bubba Raceway Park. Kolves is only 66 back. Dirk Miller is 100 points back in 4th and Eddie Moss, Jr. is 196 points out of 1st. Anytime the FMSA is at Bubba Raceway Park the points will shuffle every lap and the winners will too.

Gates open at 4:30 with racing slated for 7. One Last One For PJ Wiggins will be a good one and you won't want to miss it. For more information you can go to www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the speedway hotline!

Bronson “Parks It” Again at Bubba Raceway Park

by Scott McAllister
Thanks to beautiful weather, Fan Appreciation Night and our annual “Back to School” Back Pack Giveaway, Bubba Raceway Park was packed with fans ready to enjoy some fantastic racing action. The Galaxy Fireworks Hobby Stocks were the 1st to roll out for their feature and Tim Gay from Plant City quickly made it known he was here for the win. It was Gay’s 1st appearance at BRP this year, but once he got out front, he never looked back and “parked it” in the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Victory Lane. Mike Stalnaker had a strong run as always, finishing 2nd and Rodney Wright in the 99 car from Altoona crossed the stripe 3rd. Rick Elwood had a tremendous run after tagging the back of the field earlier in the race to finish 4th and DJ Nobles, who didn’t even make it for heat races and started in the back of the field, finished 5th. Heat races were won by Rick Elwood and Mike Stalnaker. Florida Mini Sprints brought out their usual breathtaking show with multiple “slide-jobs” on both ends of the track. Dirk Miller in the #68 Todd’s Tomatoes, Hyper Racing Chassis from Deland powered his way to another win here at BRP. He was hounded all night by Robbie Smith who eventually had to settle for a hard fought 2nd. Rounding out the top 5 were Danny Sams, Robby Hoffmann and Austin Craddock. The two heat race winners were Robbie Smith and David Hall. Modifieds rolled out 17 strong and it was quickly apparent that the winner would have to earn this victory. Current Bubba Raceway Park Modified points… read more
