One Last One

. Posted in Racing News

Four divisions were on tap on a night where Bubba Raceway Park honored the fallen PJ Wiggins with One Last One For PJ Wiggins as a UMP Open-Wheel Modified race. Also, the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Gladiators, and Florida Mini Sprints Association took to the clay. Of course, a NASCAR celebrity made an appearance at his former stomping grounds as well.

First out were the always exciting Florida Mini Sprints. Dirk Miller was unable to bring the 68 out after a 3rd Heat flip in turn 2. The points leaders took massive hits with Miller not starting and Chris Pacetti, 2nd, and Justin Kolves, 3rd, pulling off early. That left leader David Pleaugh to extend his lead. On lap 3, pole sitter Tommy Bowden slowed and John Moss flipped his 44 before Rhea Lynne Moss and Kolves made heavy contact. All 3 were okay after. Eddie Moss, Jr. was leading after a few caution breaks and wasn't quite ready to give it up. The final caution came out for David Hall's spin in turn 4. Moss had to hold off the hard charging David Pleaugh for a win. Dylan Colding took an impressive 3rd place finish while Sheldon Kinser drove to 4th from 16th making him the biggest mover of the race. Eddie Moss the elder rounded out the top 5 with Pete Smith 6th, Ken Penta 7th, David Hall 8th, Brian Penrose a crazy, half-on-his-side on lap 5 9th place finish, and Rudy Nommin finished 10th.

With names such as Mathews, Bronson, Lloyd, Pratt, and Reutimann in a Modified race you knew this was a big deal. Nick Hoffman dominated the race by leading 29 of the 40 laps, but he didn't have it easy. Buzzie Reutimann spun his 00 from 3rd and left the 28 drivers behind him with 2 choices: high or low? On lap 12 the 54 of Kevin Bryant hit the wall and flipped before Scott Mooers made contact. Both were okay. After 20 laps the competition caution came out for refueling and all was smooth. Kyle Bronson, Jeff Mathews, and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. were climbing through the field trying to gain the advantage. Lap 24 saw Jason Davis flip his old 145. Davis was okay after the wreck. On lap 30 of the shortened-to-40 lapper Rich Pratt drove the 78 to the lead over Hoffman and never gave it up. Pratt took his 2nd consecutive win and the biggest One of the season. Hoffman went home a very disappointing 2nd with the other #2 Devin Dixon in 3rd. Driver #00 David Reutimann made a special trip to Bubba Raceway Park in honor of the fallen PJ Wiggins and took home 4th and bragging rights over his father, Buzzie, who struggled to a 23rd place finish. Reutimann will hope to carry the momentum into the Advocare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (GA) on Sunday. Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. and Jeff Mathews went 5-6 and 'Dent grabbed a point over Mathews in their battle for championship glory. Ronald Soltis finished 7th, and Kyle Bronson was 8th and the Hard Charger presented by Tiny Green of Palatka Tire And Lube. Bruce Harvey and Jim Passino rounded out the top 10.

The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks came in knowing that 6 different drivers had a realistic shot at the points lead and 7 with a mathematical shot. Jeff Baer and pole sitter Jon Layerd swapped the lead between the first 3 laps before Brian Cox and Chris Watson collided and brought a yellow flag out. On lap 12, with Chad Scranton dominating after the lap 3 restart, Eddie Lake found his 96L in the infield. He was given 2nd back and the G-W-C was called upon. Scranton blew something up with half a lap to go leaving Eddie Lake with career win #1. Gordon Cade finished 2nd, Chris Shea 3rd, John Thorpe the meat in a Shea Sandwich after Brian Shea finished 5th. Chad Scranton was a disappointing 6th with a "What could've been?" run. Vaughn Woodall and Tim Mathieu held on to title dreams with 7th and 8th, respectively, with Ron Adams and Mark Trexler rounding out the top 10.

Only 11 showed up for Gladiator racing but they still put on a wonderful show. Kramer scratched the night leaving 10 for a checkered flag.  Ray Hunter overtook Steve Johnson on lap 3 and held it until lap 7 when Reid Christensen took the lead before the caution for Justin Williams stopped in turn 3. The birthday boy Reid Christensen took his 2nd-in-a-row, this time at age 17 though. Steve Cox took 2nd place, David Dunbar was an impressive with 3rd, Ray Hunter fell to 4th, and Steve Johnson was 5th. Brandon Haseleu was 6th, Kody Fisher 7th, Robert Graham 8th, Jerry Taylor 9th, and Justin Williams was 10th.

Next week-end at Bubba Raceway Park it's the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Double Points and $300 to win for the Gladiators. For more information you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline!

Bubba Raceway Park Results 5/15/2015

by Lisa Mamph
May 15, 2015 Ocala, FL - A cool breeze in the air made the racing action hot this past Friday at Bubba Raceway Park. For the driver’s in attendance they were treated to a well prepared racetrack special thanks to Bubba himself and Jimmy Flores. E-Modifieds were first to take to the track in their 10 lap feature event. This race would consist of Neven Gainey (0) and Brandon Elwood (28E) dueling it out for the first place position. Consistent side by side racing would make a hard fought victory for Gainey who would top Elwood at the checkered flag to take the win. Third spot would go to Dillon Ennis (10E) and rounding out the finish would be Tom Sheehan (5). Up next were the Florida T.Q. Late Models for a 20 lap feature event. Terry Wright (007) would jump to an early lead over Dalton Hopke (H2) and David Rader (6). As the racing action was heating up, the challengers for the lead started falling off with Hopke being the first to retire to the pit area followed a few laps later by Rader. This left Wright to sail to the checkered flag unopposed. Rounding out the top five of the night was Randy Glick (45), Fl, John Hopke (H1), Sean Babcock (02) and Chuck Cessna (85). The Florida Mini Sprints were next to take to the track for their 20 Lap feature event. Starting on the pole and jumping to an early lead was Danny Sams III (24x). Sams held off charges from Robbie Smith (77) and Robbie Hoffman (12) as Hoffman was looking to make it two in a row at BRP and Smith was just hoping to… read more
