2-18- BC-VL 048 edited-1a24 Rick EckertWorld of Outlaws Late Models and the Florida Mini Sprints hit the clay for 1 last time during Winternationals and put on a show that won't be soon forgotten with Hulk Hogan throwing the green flag from the track.

Gavin Thomas won the dash for pole for the Florida Mini Sprints which gave the Todd's Tomatoes Team a boost for the feature. Thomas went on to finish 3rd with some problems that would plague him in the race. Tyler Ross, last night's winner, finished 4th with Eddie Moss, Jr. right behind him. Chris Pacetti finshed 2nd but was nearly half a lap behind the absolutely dominant Jim Young. No cautions occurred in the last 2 events for the FMSA.

Lanigan, the 2008 champ, won Thursday. Josh Richards, the 2009 and 2010 winner, won Friday. Another former champion joined them as winners at Bubba Raceway Park. On lap 11 Tim Fuller cut a tire while mid-pack which forced the World of Outlaws Race Control to put the yellow out. Mike Marlar had been pulling away and he did so again before the field was bunched up on lap 20 when Billy Moyer stopped on the turn 1 apron. The next 22 laps were green and Marlar held on before Greg Johnson spun to avoid hindering the lead pack. Darrel Lanigan took advantage of his 3rd place position to take the lead but he made a mistake just 1 lap later which allowed "Scrub" Rick Eckert to take the lead. Marlar took 2nd back with Richards in tow. On lap 47 Jared Hawkins spun in turn 4 setting up a sprint. Eckert pulled away but with 5 to go Marlar cut the 1.1 second lead down to just .4. Then .2. The last 2 laps were nearly side-by-side but on the backstraight on lap 60 of 60 Marlar hit the wall and blew the right rear. Eckert took 1 breath before crossing the line with Richards and Lanigan behind him. Shane Clanton and Pat Doar completed the top 5. Marlar finished 18th, last lead lap car.

DARLAND STRETCHES NATIONAL WIN STREAK TO 23 YEARS WITH SUNDAY OCALA WIN

by BRP Media
Ocala, Florida…….Dave Darland added to the most impressive streak in USAC history on Sunday night at Bubba Raceway Park, as he added another AMSOIL National Sprint Car win to his list and made it 23 consecutive seasons with at least one win in a USAC National series. The Lincoln, Indiana veteran’s all-time record 54th National Sprint Car win came in flag-to-flag fashion aboard the Phillips Motorsports – Trench Shoring #71P DRC/Foxco. “My crew had to work their asses off just to get the car ready for the feature after some issues in the heat race and then gave me a great car even without having much chance to keep up with the track. We have just had some bad luck out of the gate, but tonight was a great way to rebound. It’s good to be down here while it’s snowing at home, and I can drink a beer to celebrate while it’s warm outside. And it’s good to get my first win in the state of Florida!” Darland said. Darland led at the start over polesitter Chris Windom, while Robert Ballou was the early man on the move, jumping into the top-five in just a few laps after starting tenth. A red flag on lap six brought things to a screeching halt as Brady Short flipped hard into turn three and collected Landon Simon. Neither driver was hurt. After a tangle on the ensuing restart, Ballou found himself bringing out the next caution as he slid to a stop in turn-three, giving up the fifth spot but restarting at the tail. Under that caution, defending champion and current point leader Brady Bacon… read more
