The best drivers in Late Model racing made the trip to Bubba Raceway Park for the 5th event of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series tour. The winner's prize would be $20,000 after 75 grueling laps around the 3/8 mile.

Action got started with Ohlins Shocks Qualifying and the middle group was the place to be and Mason Zeigler used his qualifying position to take his first career Fast Qualifier Award with a 13.948 (96.79 MPH). Zeigler would also dominate his heat, another first for him, to join Darrell Lanigan, Josh Richards, and an ill Jimmy Owens. After some intense heat racing the World of Outlaws moved on to the Last Chance Showdowns where Brady Smith and Pat Doar clinched spots in the Feature with exciting victories. Casey Roberts earned the 23rd starting spot after dominating the Keyser Manufacturing Last Chance race. Tim Fuller and 2013 Rookie of the Year candidate Dillon "The Atlantic Assassin"  Wood earned the 2 World of Outlaws provisional positions and 2012 track champion Mark Whitener earned a Promoter's Choice Provisional but would, unfortunately, scratch from the race. Kent Robinson used his Emergency Provisional to put 27 cars on the starting line-up. The redraw favored the heavy hitters as "The Newtown Nightmare" drew the coveted 1 spot and "Scrub" Rick Eckert found himself on the outside pole. "Rocket Man" Josh Richards drew a very quiet 3rd and "The Real Deal" Don O'Neal pulled a 4. Mike Marlar and Darrell Lanigan were again next to each other, this time on the grid in row 3 while Mason Zeigler got a nasty first taste of the redraw system and pulled a 7, right ahead of Shane Clanton.

Decisions had to be made on strategy as 75 laps, or 28.2 miles, were to be run with $20,000 up for grab. Jimmy Owens shot to the lead like he was fired out of a cannon but Josh Richards was riding on a Rocket up to 2nd. On lap 9 the track time paid off as Richards took the lead. On the very next lap it was track position and Owens used lapped traffic to take the point back, however, on lap 17, Richards sped back to the front. Just past lap 25 Mike Marlar, last night's heartbreak story, cut a right rear tire and brought out the first of 4 cautions. The next yellow flew 2 laps later when Steve Francis cut his left rear tire in front of team-owner Clint Bowyer who had just qualified 18th in a historic Daytona 500 qualifying session. Richards would lead the field to green with Owens and Don O'Neal in tow. After a further 7 laps it was Casey Roberts' turn to bring the caution out when his #101 began to lose life. Richards was still the leader but Scott James had fought to move his Warrior into 2nd and Owens was holding on to 3rd. The final yellow flew on lap 48 for Dillon Wood who also lost power in the #1W. Richards would have his hands full with James and Owens in tow but Owens began to freefall after the restart. O'Neal pounced into 3rd and Eckert jumped up to 4th but they would become stationary as the other 2 pulled away. Chub Frank had powered his way up from outside of the top 15 to run in 5th place but James was chasing his place in the history books. From lap 60-65 Richards was caught in traffic and James was sniffing the blood- the problem, however, was that James used his tires up and didn't make the crucial pass. Richards strolled home after the threat- he even lapped Darrell Lanigan who completely missed it tonight- and earned a cool $20,000 while James finished a hard fought and well deserved 2nd. "The Real Deal" admitted that he gave valuable time up over the last 2 days but that 3rd was a great result. Rick Eckert was able to make his ill mother smile with a solid 4th place finish and "Chubzilla" finally shook the monkey off of his back with a top 5 finish.

After an exciting week-end of the World of Outlaws we move on to our final week of the Bubba Army Winter Nationals with USAC and the Southern States Midgets Series. The stars of USAC such as Bryan Clauson and Darran Hagen will try to break the track record of 14.366 (93.97 MPH) set by Brady Bacon last year. It's going to be a wild final week of the Bubba Army Winter Nationals and you won't want to miss it! Racing on Thursday and Friday will start at 8 meaning pits open at 5 and grandstands at 6. On Saturday we wrap it all up with a 7 PM start time while pits open at 4 and grandstands at 5. For more information visit www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call us at 352-622-9400!

NOSBISCH TAKES BUBBA RACEWAY PARK NeSMITH LATE MODEL WIN

by BRP Media
Keith Nosbisch of Valrico, FL celebrates his fifth career NeSmith Late Model win and his first in seven years on Friday night at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL during the Rock Auto.com Winternationals driving the Image Skin Care Rocket. (photosbytrace.com)OCALA, FL – No matter where the competition comes from, Keith Nosbisch of Valrico, FL has always been tough when it comes to keeping the big money in the Sunshine State. Friday night was no exception, as Nosbisch took his fifth NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series career win and his first in seven years during the Rock Auto.com Winternationals at Bubba Raceway Park. Nosbisch, a 30 year veteran of Florida dirt late model racing, was the class of the field, as he set fast time honors to earn the pole position for the 50-lap race, and led 44 laps to collect the $3,000 top prize driving the Image Skin Care Rocket. Nosbisch lost the lead for six laps to Walker Arthur of Forest, VA, but stuck to his inside groove to retake the point. “The lapped cars really slowed my pace down by a half a second, and Walker caught me behind a lapped car and passed me for the lead on the outside,” Nosbisch said. “I knew if I was patient enough, I could get back under him if the lapped cars would give me enough room and they did.” Wednesday night’s race winner, Mark Whitener of Middleburg, FL finished second in the Dave’s Towing Special and Arthur ended up third in the Cecil B. Arthur Beef Farms Special. Arthur leads the NeSmith Late Model… read more
