BRP 2016WN MJ 12X18 615

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media

BRPBANNERAD-MINI6-17-13. Ocala, FL- Bubba Raceway Park has a special event line up for the next two week-ends, the first of which is the Summer Spectacular this Friday and Saturday (June 21st and 22nd). On Friday, the Bubba Army Late Models will have a Practice Session, while the Hobby Stocks and 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks will Qualify and Heat Race. On Saturday, the Late Models will race for $3000, while the Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks will each battle for $2000. The E-Mods will join the fun on Saturday night.

Only three races have been run this season, but the three winners have been usuals in Kyle Bronson, Darrell Padgett, and Mark Whitener. Rich Pratt is the points leader in his Groeb Farms #0, a gap he hopes to build upon with a victory. Pratt has won in his UMP Modified this season, but Tyler Clem will try to stop him and take his own Winghouse #14 to the top step after his first career Limited Late Model win last week. Right behind Clem is Jeff Mathews, a driver with multiple wins in his Gator Core Recycling-sponsored Crate Late Model and UMP Modified. Last year’s division champion, Mark Whitener, was unstoppable last time out, and hopes to go back-to-back in his Dave’s Towing #58, something he’s done quite a bit since he joined Big Frog Motorsports in 2010. Billy Holmes rounds out the top five in his Rent-N-Roll #7, and Holmes hopes to decipher the field and claim the $3000 prize. Expect the big names- Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. and Tyler Ivey, to name a couple- as they chase the cash at Bubba Raceway Park.

Only three drivers have won multiple races in 2013 but for good reason. Last time out it was “The Gambler” Trevor Gamble taking the win- his eleventh in the Modern Era, a division record- in a brand new Gamble Racing Chassis-sponsored entry. Gamble will join points leader Devin Walker at the front as Walker tries to take the Lasoski Racing #55 to the prize. Brian Shea is second in the standings, a place he knows he can win a championship from as he won a Thunder Stock title in 2011. Shea will try to chase Walker down in his BP Electric #19, while Hunter Gustafson tries to get the Precision Race Cars #15 to P1. Sean Monoghan and Don Woosley complete the top five in the standings, with Woosley already having a win in 2013. “The Altoona Assassins” will be there with Bubba and Grady Christian headlining their group, and “The Big Lake Boys” have Tommy Hill, Scotty Kay, Jr., and Brian Morgan representing them, as well as a few others. Hill has a win thus far, and Morgan- as well as Walker and Gustafson- has two. The likes of Mike Stalnaker and plenty others will attack as well, and the greatest race of 2013 could very well happen on this week-end.

Only three men in the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks top five have never won, as points leader William Gillam took his JNM Ironworks #13 to Coors Light Winner’s Circle for the first time a month ago, and Brandon Elwood- who sits just two points behind Gillam- took career dirt wins #1 and #2 earlier this year in his Hunley Express #28. Tony Campbell has slipped back into third in his Zellwood Truck Stops #6, but is focused on the $2000 prize and, maybe, the standings. Melvin Fockler will do his best to claw back into title contention in his BK Graphics #33, and the same is true for the TNT Auto Works #73 driver, Brandon Tillander. After a couple of years in which he struggled, Tillander has a strong car and what better way to prove so then with a win ‘Money Race’ win? Jeff Stalnaker, Jr., Jeffrey Smith, Mike Tovet, and Randy Strehle will try their hands at it and maybe steal a win from the championship contenders.

The E-Mods will have open air, especially since Shane Nichols reign is over. Nichols actually got involved in an accident, so he still hasn’t finished and lost a race in the division. He leads the championship in his #65 by just thirteen over Shane Taylor. Now, if that’s not confusing enough for announcers, Shawn Taylor- Shane’s brother- sits twelve behind his brother. After the name game up front, Charlie Howard, Jr. and Roy Crain complete the top five as both consistently run up front and make the most of the Taylor’s misfortunes and Nichols’ as well.

Pits will open at 5:00 on Friday, with grandstands opening at 6:00, and opening ceremonies scheduled for 8:00. For more info on the Summer Spectacular or the 29th’s Mike Peters Open, check out
