Snyder Slays the Field at Bubba Raceway Park

. Posted in Racing News

LOGO-holderBRPOcala, FL – Bubba Raceway Park celebrated Memorial Day weekend with a five divisions of great racing at the 3/8th’s mile speedway.

In the Hobby Stock division, 16 drivers provided intense action in the 20 lap feature event. From the start, Brian Morgan and Heath Walker made it clear that they were here to win. Walker would make several runs on Morgan, trying both inside and outside lanes and pressuring the leader throughout the race. Rick and Brandon Elwood had their own “family feud” going on as well, and Joseph Forsythe, Ray Etheridge and David Arivett also provided heavy competition, but in the end, Morgan was able to stay in front of the field to grab the win. Walker finished 2nd, Rick Elwood hung on for 3rd, Brandon Elwood crossed the stripe 4th, and Ray Etheridge rounded out the top 5.

The Florida Mini Sprints were next on the track with a strong field of 25 cars in the feature event. Several cautions slowed the beginning of the race, but once the field got rolling, the action was intense. Robbie Smith powered his way to the front of the field to pick up the win, with Eddie Moss close behind in 2nd. John Craddock, John Moss and Kenny Brewer completed the top 5.

The Open-Wheel Modifieds were next to take to the track and Paul Snyder from Deland, FL proved to be too strong for the field. Austin Sanders made it close at the end, but had to settle for a 2nd place finish. Buzzie Reutimann, Chuck Gustafson and Bob Johnson rounded out the top 5.

The Florida TQ Late Models delivered their usual brand of action-packed excitement as Dalton Hopke, Randy Glick, Kevin McKenzie and John Hopke all took their turns at the leader, Terry Wright. The 007 car of Wright was “dialed in” as usual and held off the rest of the field for the feature win. Dalton Hopke finished 2nd while Glick, McKenzie and John Hopke finished 3rd, 4th and 5th.

The always rough and tough V8 Thunderstocks had everyone on their feet as 17 cars went side-by-side throughout much of the race. After an impressive run, James Erickson settled for 5th behind Jonathan Appleby who crossed the line in 4th. Patrick Mennenga was 3rd and William Gillam, after leading several laps, was 2nd. The night belonged to 1st time feature winner Gene Posey, Jr. Gene thanked his sponsors and his Dad in Victory Lane after only his 7th time ever in a full-size stock car.

Racing continues next Saturday May 31, 2014 as Late Models return to action along with Hobby Stocks, V8 Thunderstocks, E-Mods and Gladiators. For more information, log onto www.bubbaracewaypark.com.

Ocala, Florida…….Dave Darland added to the most impressive streak in USAC history on Sunday night at Bubba Raceway Park, as he added another AMSOIL National Sprint Car win to his list and made it 23 consecutive seasons with at least one win in a USAC National series. The Lincoln, Indiana veteran’s all-time record 54th National Sprint Car win came in flag-to-flag fashion aboard the Phillips Motorsports – Trench Shoring #71P DRC/Foxco. “My crew had to work their asses off just to get the car ready for the feature after some issues in the heat race and then gave me a great car even without having much chance to keep up with the track. We have just had some bad luck out of the gate, but tonight was a great way to rebound. It’s good to be down here while it’s snowing at home, and I can drink a beer to celebrate while it’s warm outside. And it’s good to get my first win in the state of Florida!” Darland said. Darland led at the start over polesitter Chris Windom, while Robert Ballou was the early man on the move, jumping into the top-five in just a few laps after starting tenth. A red flag on lap six brought things to a screeching halt as Brady Short flipped hard into turn three and collected Landon Simon. Neither driver was hurt. After a tangle on the ensuing restart, Ballou found himself bringing out the next caution as he slid to a stop in turn-three, giving up the fifth spot but restarting at the tail. Under that caution, defending champion and current point leader Brady Bacon… read more
