img 9053The first half of the 2014 racing season came to a close this past Saturday Night. The night ended in a bang with a lot of great racing action, to be followed by a beautiful Pre-4th of July Fireworks Show.

The Hobby Stocks were first out for their 20 lap feature event. Rick Elwood (92) would find himself leading the first half of this race in comfort, until Eric Moon (18) made his way through the field into the second position. Once Moon maneuvered his way through the field and caught Elwood these two would battle it out for the top position for last 5 laps. At the checkered Elwood would win followed by Moon, third would go to Cory Howard (22), forth to Brandon Elwood (28E) and rounding out the fifth position would be Joe Forsyth (17F).

Next up would be the Scorpion Performance Engine Modifieds to take to the track. The original line up would have Austin Sanders (64) and Paul Snyder (54) starting on the front row, followed by Buzzie Reutimann (00) and Roger Crouse (9) starting in the second row. Race control would then offer up a challenge to all 4 drivers. The challenge would be to go to the back of the 10 car field, If one of these 4 drivers would win the feature they would receive a $300 dollar bonus. Sanders, Snyder and Reutimann would accept the challenge leaving Crouse and Shane Nichols (65) for a front row start. Crouse would take advantage of the front row start and jump out to an early lead putting distance on Sanders and Snyder, but unfortunate luck for Reutimann saw him retire his automobile at lap 9 win a caution was displayed for the lapped car of Ronnie Soltis (61). The field would go green for the remainder of the race with Sanders and Snyder edging closer to Crouse, time would run out and Crouse would take the checkered flag and the win. Followed closely across the line by Sanders, Snyder, Nichols and rounding out the top 5 was Duane Paul Jr. (51).

E-Modifieds was the next feature to take to the track, and this race would have another drastic change in the original line up as David Arivette (75) and Shane Williams (21) would swap rides from the heat races. This leaving Kyle Arvin (96) and Caleb Harris (17) to set the pace for this event. Arvin would lead until lap 16 when charges from Williams would see Williams take the lead and cruise to the checkered flags. Williams would be followed by Arvin, Jason Gamble (73), Sean Babcock (00) and leader of the pack Tom Sheehan (5).

The V-8 Thunder and Lighting series came out in full force, as the 25 cars slated to take the green filled the track. John Florkowski (54) and Jeff Stalnaker Jr. (9) lead the field to the green flag, Florkowski would charge to an early lead, with no cautions until lap 9 when lapped traffic would get in the way of the leaders and William Edwards (08) would take advantage and gain the first position. After a series of restarts, the race would see another long green flag until Lap 22 when Josh Hughes (14) would take a slow but not so easy roll-over on the front straight away. The green flag would be displayed again and Edwards would lead to the checkered flag, but not have any luck in tech, as Williams would be disqualified and relinquish the win to Shane Williams (11K), Williams would be followed across the line by Florkowski, Justin Durbin (3G), Jonathan Appleby (69A) and Marlon Durbin (1M) would round out the top five.

The Rent-N-Roll Gladiator division was up next with 4 equally matched cars, that made for a great race. Steve "Scooby" Johnson would take the early lead as Robert Gullette (2) would attempt to pass every lap, but could not get a good enough run to make the pass. Scooby would breeze to the checkered flag, Gullette would relinquish second spot to Stephen Frankland (7UK) on the final lap because of a flat tire, Gullette held on to third and was followed across the line by Ken McCloud (10).

BLAIR OUTLASTS LEAKING TIRE FOR NeSMITH LATE MODEL WIN

by BRP Media
Max Blair of Centerville, PA celebrates his NeSmith Late Model win on Thursday night in the Rock Auto.com Winternationals at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL driving the R&J Poultry Rocket. With a win and third-place showing in the first two nights of racing, Blair leads the NeSmith Late Model point standings. (PhotosByTrace.com)OCALA, FL – Max Blair of Centerville, PA had to outrun the competition and a leaking right-rear tire to win the 50-lap main event on Thursday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series in the Rock Auto.com Winternationals at Bubba Raceway Park. Blair drove the R&J Poultry Rocket to the $2,500 win and the NeSmith Late Model point lead. “During a caution period on lap 20, my dad gave me a signal that my right-rear tire was going down,” Blair said. “I worked the car back and forth, and it felt fine, so I just kept going. I was really sweating it out in the last laps of the race because I could really feel it going away, but it stayed up until right after I took the checkered flag.” Blair started out the evening by taking fast time honors with a lap around Bubba Raceway Park in 15.947 seconds to earn the pole position for the main event. Blair took the lead at the start of the race, but he had plenty of company throughout the race. The first nine laps were led by Blair, and then he decided to go to the outside to negotiate around the cars on the tail of the lead lap. That opened up the inside groove for Walker Arthur of Forest, VA, who got… read more
