Thanks to beautiful weather, Fan Appreciation Night and our annual “Back to School” Back Pack Giveaway, Bubba Raceway Park was packed with fans ready to enjoy some fantastic racing action.
The Galaxy Fireworks Hobby Stocks were the 1st to roll out for their feature and Tim Gay from Plant City quickly made it known he was here for the win. It was Gay’s 1st appearance at BRP this year, but once he got out front, he never looked back and “parked it” in the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Victory Lane. Mike Stalnaker had a strong run as always, finishing 2nd and Rodney Wright in the 99 car from Altoona crossed the stripe 3rd. Rick Elwood had a tremendous run after tagging the back of the field earlier in the race to finish 4th and DJ Nobles, who didn’t even make it for heat races and started in the back of the field, finished 5th. Heat races were won by Rick Elwood and Mike Stalnaker.
Florida Mini Sprints brought out their usual breathtaking show with multiple “slide-jobs” on both ends of the track. Dirk Miller in the #68 Todd’s Tomatoes, Hyper Racing Chassis from Deland powered his way to another win here at BRP. He was hounded all night by Robbie Smith who eventually had to settle for a hard fought 2nd. Rounding out the top 5 were Danny Sams, Robby Hoffmann and Austin Craddock. The two heat race winners were Robbie Smith and David Hall.
Modifieds rolled out 17 strong and it was quickly apparent that the winner would have to earn this victory. Current Bubba Raceway Park Modified points leader Garrett Stewart from Deland, FL battled his way to a tough 5th place finish. The Living Legend from Zephryhills, Buzzie Reutimann fought hard to finish 4th. Local driver “Sweet Feet” Shane Nichols amazed the packed crowd with his 3rd place run. It was great to have the #33 of Jeff Mathews back at BRP, and he gave the winner all he could handle, but had to settle for 2nd. In the end, Kyle Bronson held on for another win for the #40B Brandon Ford, All Florida Real Estate Group Modified. Chip Owens and Garrett Stewart won their respective heat races.
V8 Thunderstocks completed the night with some action-packed racing that had the fans on their feet. Justin Durbin started dead last in an 18 car field and weaved his way through heavy traffic to collect another victory here at Bubba Raceway Park. Mike Eubanks and Johnathan Appleby ran side-by-side for several laps, swapping some paint on a couple other laps, but Eubanks was able to nose out Appleby for 2nd. Appleby, who is now only 12 points behind Tony Campbell for the V8 Thunderstock Point Championship, brought home a smart 3rd place finish while Joey Durbin and Jason Gamble rounded out the top 5. Dean Jarvis, Rick Maguire and Jimbo Warden were the heat race winners.
Action continues next Friday night as the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints return to action here at Bubba Raceway Park. Also on the ticket are the Florida Mini Sprints, Galaxy Fireworks Hobby Stocks and a combo Gladiator/Strictly Stock show. For information, visit www.bubbaracewaypark or call 352-622-9400.
