DONNIE ALLISON AND THE LEGACY RACE SERIES VISIT OCALA SPEEDWAY

June 2, 2002 – Ocala, FL – Veteran NASCAR driver, Donnie Allison was in attendance Saturday night at Ocala Speedway where the Allison Legacy Race Series held a National event. Fans were treated to an autograph session and had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Allison, who is one of the original three members of the “Alabama Gang.”

Chad McCumbee led most of the 100 lap Legacy race until he was involved in an incident on Lap 85. Mark Howard took the lead on Lap 86 and held on to take the checkered flag followed by McCumbee in 2nd and Douglas Benjamin, Jr. in 3rd.

Troy Robinson was the fastest qualifier in the Diamond “H” Air and Heat Modified division and went on to take the feature win with current division points leader, David Baxley, finishing in the 2nd position and Rick Hall finishing 3rd.

Once again, Pete Close, Jr. was the man to beat in the Steven A. Bagen Sportsman division. Michael Mennenga ran a good race, coming from the back of the pack to challenge Close, Jr., but had to settle for the runner-up spot. Bob Masciarelli finished in 3rd place.

John Betts took the lead from the start of the Thrifty Nickel Hobby Stock division feature and never looked back. Moose Alderman was at the back of the pack and had no where to go but forward! When the checkered flag flew, Betts got the win with David Chastain in 2nd place and Alderman in 3rd.

Bobby Carter continued his streak of Top 5 finishes by finishing in 2nd place, right behind Bobby Valeo who maneuvered his way to the front of the field to finish 1st after starting 11th in the WTRS Pure Stock division. Michael Fiddia rounded out the Top 3.

The Coca Cola 4 Cylinder Bomber feature race was almost a photo finish. A. J. Schreier led the race for 13 laps before Rocky Bowden passed him to take over that spot. Steve Gallagher started the race in the 11th position but steadily worked his way to the front. On the final lap, Bowden was in the lead coming out of Turn 4 when Gallagher passed him on the outside and managed to get his bumper across the Start/Finish line ahead of Bowden. Ric Fort finished in 3rd.

On Saturday, June 8th the T.B.A.R.A Winged Sprints will return to the Speedway. For more information or complete race results, call the Speedway office or contact us on our web site at www.ocalaspeedway.com
